Water Island is the fourth largest island in the US Virgin Islands. It is located within the Charlotte Amalie harbor area about .4 miles from St Thomas. A mountainous island, Water Island offers stunning vistas in almost every direction. Home to approximately 160 residents, Water island is three miles long and has a total area of 492 acres. Water Island also provides natural wonders such as indescribably beautiful Sprat Bay Beach.
Sprat Bay Estates is a gated enclave comprised of 115 acres of lush tropical forest that encompasses the northern end of Water Island. Banana Beach is just a short walk down a foot trail on the north end of Sprat. This beach is known for its great shell hunting. Additionally, time and weather have revealed layers of Conch shells deposited hundreds of years ago by former native inhabitants.
Rocky Beach is also a short walk down another foot trail. This beach is covered with rocks worn smooth from the constant washing back and forth of the waters.
Other unnamed beaches are accessible by foot and by boat for shelling, sunning and exploring. The many foot trails within Sprat Bay Estates allow exploring the property on foot to experience the numerous variety of plants and animals– even a shipwreck.
Sprat Bay Dock
The boatyard and dock are owned and maintained by the SBHOA. Docking spots and mooring balls are leased to property owners. Additionally, owners can be dropped off or picked up at the dock.
The tennis court is by Sprat Beach among the palm trees. It is was recently resurfaced and has an excellent playing surface.
